On the Streets of Paris, Boulevard de Bonne-Nouvelle

View along Boulevard de Bonne-Nouvelle in Paris towards the Porte Saint-Denis, with pedestrians, traffic and Haussmann-era buildings.

Boulevard de Bonne-Nouvelle, looking towards the Porte Saint-Denis, is one of the old Grands Boulevards, busy with traffic, shops and pedestrians at the meeting point of the 2nd and 10th arrondissements.

The Porte Saint-Denis was commissioned by Louis XIV in 1672 as a triumphal arch celebrating his victories on the Rhine. It replaced one of the gates in the former city wall and was designed by François Blondel.

“The streets of Paris are best explored without hurry — they reveal themselves only to the unhurried.”
