Monday for the metro - Palais Royal – Musée du Louvre.

Art Nouveau Métropolitain entrance at Palais Royal – Musée du Louvre métro station on Rue de Rivoli in Paris with pedestrians and surrounding historic buildings.

Some métro entrances are simply practical. Others announce themselves.

At Palais Royal – Musée du Louvre, this classic Art Nouveau entrance on Rue de Rivoli is one of those places where arriving feels almost as much a part of the experience as the destination. Serving lines 1 and 7, it is usually far busier than this moment suggests, with visitors, commuters and museum-goers crossing paths beneath the familiar Métropolitain sign.

The station itself rewards knowing which exit to take. Exit 1 leads directly into the Carrousel du Louvre, the underground shopping and access space connected to the museum. Exit 2 is the choice for the Palais Royal gardens and arcades. Exit 5 emerges onto Place Colette beside the Kiosque des Noctambules, Jean-Michel Othoniel’s colourful contemporary entrance whose design even incorporates a bench, a rare invitation to pause in a place designed for movement.

Happy Monday everyone!

“Every journey begins somewhere — in Paris, it often begins underground.”
