As another week comes to an end, the view from the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont stretches across Paris towards Montmartre, where the white domes of Sacré-Cœur rise above the city skyline.
Now all that's needed is for the temperature to break. Until then, perhaps it's best to enjoy the city from a shady spot with a breeze and let the panorama do the rest.
Although Montmartre appears close from Buttes-Chaumont, the two hills were once separated by very different landscapes. Montmartre was famous for its gypsum quarries, while the site of Buttes-Chaumont was a vast quarry for limestone and gypsum before Napoleon III transformed it into one of Paris's most dramatic parks for the 1867 Universal Exposition.
