A classic façade at 159 Quai de Valmy in the 10th arrondissement.
This handsome building with its warm red brick, cream detailing, and elegant wrought-iron balconies is a perfect example of the charming architecture found along the Canal Saint-Martin reflecting a more individual character, far removed from the uniformity of Haussmannian Paris.
The premises on the bottom right of the image used to be occupied by 'BSA Carburant' with two street side pumps, evidence of which you can still see on the pavement markings today. It’s a lovely reminder of how the neighbourhood has evolved while keeping its authentic Parisian soul.

Today, the quay is lined with small shops and cafés, while the upper floors continue their quiet residential life behind those well-dressed windows and balconies. Just another beautiful, lived-in corner of Paris that rewards those who take the time to look up.
Love that some old habits die hard - with the airing of items over the balcony!
Part of the “Windows & Balconies of Paris” Series
Each Wednesday, we share a glimpse of Paris through its windows and balconies — the quiet details that give the city its rhythm and romance.
