Across the Canal Saint-Martin, the upper windows and zinc rooflines of the École maternelle Hôpital Saint-Louis appear above the trees lining Quai de Jemmapes. The curved dormer windows and unusual roof design stand apart from the more familiar Paris façades, giving the building a character very much its own beneath the heavy spring clouds.
Seen from the opposite bank of the canal, the scene feels calm and slightly removed from the busy streets beyond. A Paris view that rewards anyone willing to pause along the water’s edge and look up!
This stretch of Quai de Jemmapes was once lined with warehouses and working barges carrying coal, wine, and building materials through Paris. Today the cargo boats are gone, but the canal still keeps a quieter, more everyday atmosphere that has long attracted photographers and filmmakers looking for a different side of the city.
Bon mercredi !
