Monday is for the metro - Blanche.

Art Nouveau Blanche métro entrance in Paris with classic Métropolitain sign, ornate ironwork, Haussmann buildings and evening sky in Pigalle.

At the Blanche métro entrance, Paris still slips underground beneath one of Hector Guimard’s surviving Art Nouveau signs, its curling ironwork looking almost organic against a blue sky. Just beyond lies Pigalle and the Moulin Rouge but the station itself takes its name from Boulevard Blanche, named after Blanche d’Antigny, a 19th-century actress and courtesan whose reputation once coloured this entire neighbourhood...quite some history!

The entrance has become one of the classic Paris métro views, especially when sunlight catches the old cream façades and the green Métropolitain lettering seems lifted from another era entirely.

Happy Monday everyone!

“Every journey begins somewhere — in Paris, it often begins underground.”
