Thursday Terraces: Boulevard Henri IV – L'Hirondelle's

Boulevard Henri IV – L'Hirondelle's with red awning and tables on the terrace.

Today's terrace: L'Hirondelle brasserie at the corner of Boulevard Henri IV (4e/12e border), near Place de la Bastille.

Boulevard Henri IV runs straight from Bastille toward the river, and terraces here feel like extensions of the sidewalk—unpretentious, welcoming, and perfect for watching the city go by. In winter, when days are short, these outdoor tables still draw crowds thanks to heaters and the promise of warmth inside.

Practical notes:

  • Métro: Bastille (Lines 1, 5, 8) or Sully-Morland (Line 7) – 3–5 min walk.
  • Nearby: Coulée Verte (elevated park walkway), Seine quays, or a quick stroll to Place des Vosges.
  • Open late, good for apéro or casual dinner.

Paris terraces in winter: sometimes quiet, sometimes buzzing, just enough life to make you want to sit down and stay a while.

Bon jeudi ! 🇫🇷🪑

“A Paris terrace is never just somewhere to sit, it’s a way of observing the city at its own pace.”

Part of the “On the Terraces of Paris” series

Each Thursday we take a seat on one of Paris’s terraces, those open-air rooms where the city’s everyday life unfolds in full view.
