Monday morning at Bourse station: the stock exchange is open, traders are rushing but the real VIPs have already taken their seats.
Today's stop: Bourse on Line 3 (opened 1904), right in front of the grand Palais Brongniart.
The classic black 'MÉTROPOLITAIN' sign gets its daily takeover by a lineup of pigeons, perfectly spaced, looking very serious, as if they're about to discuss market trends or vote on the next bread crumb dividend. Meanwhile, the neoclassical columns behind them add that extra touch of gravitas. Paris pigeons, always early, always confident and apparently immune to closing bells.
A gentle reminder that in the city of finance and fashion, sometimes the most important decisions happen on a Métro sign.
Practical Paris.
- Steps from the Bourse de Commerce (Pinault Collection contemporary art center, free entry to the rotunda).
- Surrounded by covered passages (Passage des Panoramas, Galerie Vivienne nearby for hidden shopping and bistros).
- Quick access to Opéra, Grands Boulevards, or a stroll to Place Vendôme.
“Every journey begins somewhere — in Paris, it often begins underground.”
Part of the “Métro Mondays” Series
Each Monday, we travel beneath Paris — tracing its stories, moods, and motion through the tunnels that carry the week into being.
