Le Peletier is one of the later additions to Line 7. When the line opened between Opéra and Porte de la Villette in November 1910, trains passed through here without stopping. The station finally opened on 6 June 1911, seven months after the rest of this section of the line. It takes its name from nearby Rue Le Peletier, itself named after Louis Le Peletier de Morfontaine, the last-but-one prévôt des marchands of Paris.
