Sometimes it is the small details that make a window worth photographing. Here, two pigeons have claimed the window ledge and balcony of a building on Rue du Faubourg-du-Temple, while the open shutters reveal a reflection of the building opposite.

The ornate iron balcony, stone surrounds and white shutters provide the setting, but the squatters have clearly decided that this is home.



The street, which is actually in two arrondissements, has a long association with small businesses and artisans. The building in the photograph continues that tradition at street level, while its older residential details survive above the shopfront.
