Saturday on the streets of Paris...Av. de Camoens

As one of the shortest streets in Paris, Avenue de Camoens in the 16th arrondissement might not be considered to hold much interest to visitors to the city but if you approach it up the elaborate staircase off Boulevard Delessert you will find one of the most popular locations for viewing and photographing the Eiffel Tower. The figure featured in the centre of the staircase is that of Luís Vaz de Camões, considered to be Portugal’s greatest poet, though we are not exactly sure why it is here!

The street itself, though short, has a diverse mix of architecture with one side full of classical facades and the other hosting the rear of the modern and prestigious Lycée Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague.

The nearest métro station is Trocadéro (metro lines 6 and 9), which is just a 5 minute walk away so you have the opportunity to catch another iconic view of the tower from the esplanade.
