Lamarck-Caulaincourt a station with a double identity.

Lamarck-Caulaincourt Metro station entrance on a steep Montmartre street, Paris

Opened in 1912 on what was then the Nord-Sud railway's Line A, it was originally called simply Lamarck. The name was later extended to Lamarck-Caulaincourt because Rue Caulaincourt is nearby. Lamarck refers to the naturalist Jean-Baptiste de Lamarck, while Caulaincourt commemorates General Armand de Caulaincourt.

Come out of the Metro and you are immediately confronted with 'the slope'. The station is on Line 12, which itself passes through Montmartre on its way between the north and southwest of Paris
