Rue de Rivoli (1er) is hardly short of famous names but there is an unmistakably Swedish presence in the middle of it. IKEA opened its Paris Rivoli store in 2021, at 144 Rue de Rivoli, directly opposite the reopened Le Samaritaine. It was IKEA's second Paris city-centre store, following its 2019 opening at La Madeleine.
The location makes for an interesting contrast: traditional Parisian façades, ornate street lamps and the long perspective of Rue de Rivoli, with the bright yellow-and-blue IKEA sign adding a distinctly Scandinavian note.
A little bit of Sweden in the heart of Paris and on one of the city's most historic streets.
