Choices on Pont d'Arcole...Mon banc dominical / My Sunday Bench.

There is more history here than the benches might suggest. The first Pont d'Arcole was a pedestrian suspension bridge, opened in 1828 between the Place de l'Hôtel de Ville and the Île de la Cité. The present single-span iron bridge dates from 1856.

Its most dramatic moment came in August 1944, when the first tanks of General Leclerc's 2nd Armoured Division crossed the bridge on their way to the Hôtel de Ville during the Liberation of Paris.
