Mon banc dominical — my Sunday bench, on Pont de Bercy.

Stone bench built into a wall near Pont de Bercy on Quai d’Austerlitz in Paris, shaded by trees with dappled sunlight and a bridge sign visible.

By the entrance to Pont de Bercy on Quai d’Austerlitz, this simple stone bench sits tucked against the parapet, half in shade, half in sun. It is the kind of place you might pass without noticing, yet it quietly offers a pause between the movement of the bridge and the flow along the Seine.

Pont de Bercy (like Pont de Bir-Hakeim) is unusual in that it carries both road traffic and on a parallel upper structure, Paris Métro Line 6 between Quai de la Gare and Bercy. Sit here long enough and you will hear the familiar rumble overhead as trains cross the river.

Bon dimanche à tous ! Have a peaceful day, everyone.

Paris has many views — but the one from a Sunday bench might be the most honest.”

Part of the “Mon Banc Dominical” Series
