Saturday on the streets of Paris...Rue de Steinkerque.

A busy Rue de Steinkerque which runs from the Boulevard de Rochechouart and the Métro station Anvers to Place Saint-Pierre and Square Louise-Michel at the foot of the steps up to the Sacré Coeur.

The street's name comes from the Battle of Steinkerque (1692) fought near Steenkerque a village fifty kilometres south-west of Brussels. The battle was won by the French under Marshal François-Henri de Montmorency, duc de Luxembourg against the armies of William of Orange. The bloody battle ended with the death 15000 men!

The only skirmishes fought here are at the height of the tourist season with people battling to access the many shops offering souvenirs and trinkets.
