Looking from a balcony down on the Place du Carrousel located at the open end of the courtyard of the Louvre. The 'Place' was not always open-ended as this was the location of the former Tuileries Palace which  was destroyed by burning during the 'Paris Commune' in May 1871 and despite much talk and gestures, was never restored.
