The photo above 'Les amoureux de la Bastille', of a couple by the railings of the Colonne de Juillet is by Willy Ronis best known for his images of post-war Paris. He captured the image in 1957 after taking photographs of the streets below. He eventually met up with the couple in the photo,going to see them in their café, which they had bought after getting married, on the corner of the Rue du Faubourg-Saint-Antoine,where a framed copy hung on the wall,they were called Riton and Marinette.
